Bike is so high, can be a road hazard

This cyclist towers above other vehicles but his presence on the road gives a STOMPer the jitters - she wonders how he gets on it in the first place and whether he would be able to stop in time when the traffic lights turn red.

The STOMPer was travelling along Mountbatten Road with her colleagues today (17 Sept) after lunch, when she spotted this couple riding these bicycles.In her email to STOMP,

she wrote:“A few of my colleagues and I had gone to the eastern part of Singapore for lunch.“On my way back to city after lunch, we chanced upon a couple riding on strange bikes along Mountbatten Road.

“The cyclist seat is above the roof of a normal saloon car! “We were wondering how the cyclists would stop the bikes when the traffic lights turned red.“When the lights did turn red, the male cyclist continued cycling!

“We caught up with the cyclists when the traffic lights turned green and I took their photo with my camera (I was in the backseat).

“Though we were quite amused by the cyclists, we thought what they are doing is dangerous and could jeopardise other road users.

“What struck us was the couple had rather odd items on their bikes, like a purple food cover in front of the female cyclist's bike.

“We were also wondering how they got onto the bikes in the first place!”
